Giving Back to the Community

In 2020, I began a series of grassroots efforts to bring playing opportunities to young soccer fans in East Africa. My efforts were inspired by my own love for the game, as well as the stories I heard from friends overseas who live in Kenya. I learned that it was common for young people to play without shoes or in flip flops and with makeshift balls made either of plastic bags or old fishing buoys. I knew I could do something to make an impact on their experience with the sport.

Over the years, I've created a support network that has done amazing things for young players in East Africa. To date, through various fundraising efforts and donations, I have supplied over 500 youth with uniforms, proper cleats, balls and other soccer gear. I also worked with local communities to put on a youth tournament in Lamu, Kenya, the first time anything like this had ever been done. Most recently, I've initiated an effort to create a proper playing field for an orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya. Through my church, I have also expanded efforts into Uganda to bring balls and jerseys to underserved youth there.

In addition to arranging shipments overseas, I've been fortunate to have traveled to â€‹East Africa twice and worked personally with the soccer communities there. During my most recent trip in 2024, I brought some of my California teammates with me, and we held training clinics and distributed gear to several clubs in Nairobi, Kenya. The joy of kicking around a ball and having fun with friends is universal!

What started as a vague idea in my early high school years has now become a full-fledged 501c3 non-profit, Game Changers Corporation. I endeavor to keep my philanthropic work going and expanding into more nations as the opportunities arise. Currently, I am an economics major at Columbia University in New York City, where I aspire to launch a successful career in finance. It is my intention to use that platform as a way to continue my philanthropic work.
